Why do I need new windows?

Installing new windows to your home will improve it both on the outside and on the inside. You can customize them by choosing your desired frames, glass, hardware, design and even color.

Research shows that 60% to 80% of heat loss in the winter months and heat gain in the summer months is through your windows. New windows not only improve the climate in your house, but also reduce outside noise. Another thing that most people neglect is fire safety. It’s important that windows follow current fire code and function smoothly in case of an emergency. Security is also essential. Having windows that can prevent a break-in is important for your peace of mind.

In today’s competitive market buyers look for houses fitted with new windows. Upgrading your windows will help increase the resale value of your house. Buyers also look for energy efficient houses. According to a publication by the US Dept. of Energy in 2010, approximately 2 lbs. of carbon dioxide are created for every kilowatt hour of energy produced from coal or natural gas. Energy efficient windows lessen the impact. A u-factor improvement of .01 can save up to 400 lbs. of carbon dioxide emissions per home every year.

 Energy Savings

Installing energy-efficient windows not only helps the environment, but also cuts energy use and reduces your monthly heating and cooling bills. The U.S. Department of Energy states that inefficient windows are responsible for almost 30% of the home’s energy loss. Why waste almost one-third of your money by spending it on heating and cooling bills? Choose to replace your old windows with more environment friendly and cost efficient ones.

MEASURING ENERGY PERFORMANCE IN YOUR  WINDOWS.

How can you tell if a window is energy-efficient? National standards have been established for rating the energy performance of replacement windows by the National Fenestration Rating Council. NFRC is an independent, non-profit organization that administers the only nationally accepted rating system for energy performance of windows, doors and skylights. NFRC provides fair, accurate and reliable energy performance ratings so that architects, engineers, builders, code officials, contractors and homeowners can compare different products and make informed choices. Energy efficiency is measured by looking at the U and R values.

U-Value is the most important measure of a window’s performance. It indicates the rate in which the heat flows through a window. The lower the U-value, the more energy efficient the window will be. U-value measures the entire window unit — glass, frame, sash, spacers — and is the only measurement accepted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s EnergyStar program.

R-Value measures the resistance of glass to the flow of heat. The higher the R-value, the better the glass will be at insulating your home. R-value is NOT an accepted form of measurement by the NFRC or EnergyStar, as it does not measure the overall window unit.

Look for the NFRC label on any replacement New England window you purchase so you can be sure of the quality of your purchase.

The flair of windows

Windows can reflect the architecture of a building and give it an extra appeal. For example if you have an old house that was built with certain kinds of windows in mind, installing a modern set of windows will look out of place. That’s why you need to match the architecture with your new windows and we are the perfect team capable of doing that. No other element complements a building more than its windows.

Most homeowners don’t know how important it is to have beautiful windows that perfectly blend with their home’s exterior. You don’t want your house looking like it was roughly patched up by an amateur. You want it to properly reflect your personality. Together we will work with you and decide which set of windows is best for your home.
